Welsh Language Standards

The Central South Consortium (CSC) is committed to providing opportunities for anyone who wishes to contact us to do so in Welsh. We welcome both written and spoken communication in Welsh or English and will respond in the language the individual uses to contact us, and communicating with us in Welsh will not lead to delay.

By doing so, we hope to play our part in increasing the number of people who speak and access Welsh language services in the Central South Wales region, and raise awareness of the importance of the language as an essential part of the cultural identify of all who live and work in Wales.

As a bilingual organisation, we are committed to ensuring that Welsh-medium provision is considered at all times when planning the delivery of all PL to school practitioners across Bridgend, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and the Vale of Glamorgan.

We ensure that asynchronous PL and resources are available bilingually, that these are published simultaneously in both languages, are available via the same URL, and allow the user to select their preferred language in which to access the material.

Wherever possible, we deliver live PL in Welsh (either in-person or online) where appropriate to the topic or audience to encourage engagement by Welsh speakers. Events specific to Welsh-medium schools are held regularly, and breakout rooms for Welsh-medium audiences are provided in online events and conferences, where relevant. Written materials and agendas are produced bilingually even when live delivery is only possible in English. The language of delivery is advertised for all live PL at the point of booking. Simultaneous translation is available at CSC conferences.

We consider Cymraeg at every opportunity and encourage our staff to use and develop their Welsh language skills wherever possible.

Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council (RCTCBC), as the host local authority for the Central South Consortium, is responsible for overseeing compliance with the Welsh Language Standards.
